The Acoustic Pavilion was designed as a stage for electronic and experimental music with different performances taking place during the yearly event “Aalborg in Red”. During the three days event several hundred people of all ages visited the pavilion and watched the unfolding of both the music and the pavilion. Sail boats docked at the harbor front and listened from the water while others enjoyed the performances from within the pavilion space.

The Acoustic Pavilion is created from evolutionary algorithms that search the optimum form and reflective environment for electronic music within the context of Aalborg’s harbour front. It encloses the musical space from the city and opens to the water aiming at creating an intimate sound based milieu within an open public realm. The actual design process was based on numerous experiments concerned with form, materials, structure, and acoustics that aided by computational algorithms generated the final shape as well as the pointy wood components. Thereby both music, space, materials and structure were merged into one architectural object with the aim of giving the audience a unique experience on Aalborg’s harbor front.
