Delivery room of the future

Since Olivia was born at Hospital Unit West in Herning in 2010, Esben has been working with midwives and researchers to create better and more humane environments that promote natural childbirth. The hypothesis is that by reducing stress, oxytocin production increases, promoting the natural birth process, reducing the need for medication and surgery, decreasing hospital readmissions, and improving overall patient satisfaction for the new family.

Furthermore, increased oxytocin production reduces the number of stalled labors, the need for epidural blockades, and the use of labor-stimulating drugs. Additionally, giving fathers more control empowers them to take a more active role in forming the new family. We are currently researching how the new delivery room affects patients and staff.
