In 2025–2026, I assisted Dr. Sivajini Bala Skouboe in designing and realizing the new space for Øjenlægens Hus, located at Boulevarden 18 in Aalborg. The clinic features three examination rooms, two technical rooms, three waiting areas, an operating theatre, a kitchen, three restrooms, and a basement equipped with technical ventilation, storage, and staff facilities. Additionally, the clinic includes a prominent storefront facing Boulevarden.
The main architectural vision was to transform a large, open space into a warm, welcoming environment of excellence for both patients and staff, achieved through natural materials and optimized acoustics. A cohesive palette of oak, travertine, brass, green tones, and live plants meets and comforts patients upon arrival.
The custom furniture was designed in collaboration with Claus Grønning and crafted locally. Key details—such as the fluted panels with Roman profiles, brass plinths, and warm, natural travertine countertops—create dynamic vertical lines that elegantly balance the strong horizontal surfaces, while softening the edges of the cabinetry. Sand-green curtains complement the wooden flooring and add an extra layer of softness to the interior. The lift is seamlessly integrated into the floor and staircase, further reflecting the project's high standard of detailed craftsmanship. Beyond the interior design, I also assisted in developing the visual identity for Øjenlægens Hus.
Today, Øjenlægens Hus stands as a modern yet timeless eye clinic. It offers easy accessibility, state-of-the-art surgical facilities, and evidence-based consultations. Every day, the space radiates a calm, welcoming Nordic atmosphere that inspires the daily work environment.
