The Red Pavilion was a temporal stage located in a public space, developed for the annual event “Aalborg Cultural Night.” The pavilion was specifically designed to support experimental and electronically-based music and visuals. The pavilion’s complex, graduated skin creates a dynamic environment for performers and their music, and the folded skin of the pavilion allowed us to create mediated patterns using projection mapping from the outside and architectural lighting from the inside.
The pavilion’s exterior, composed of white pyramid-shaped components, served as an urban canvas for the projection of animated visuals. These projections and advanced lighting created graphical movements across the structure, altering its visual expression and the surrounding atmosphere. The patterns of mediated direct and indirect reflections and shadow play made the skin come alive.
